How to Prepare for CA Foundation While Still in Class 11th,12th — A Subject-Wise Weekly Study Plan

CA Foundation Class 11th & 12th

Preparation is key while aspiring to become a Chartered Accountant (CA). The first stage, while preparing to become a CA, is the CA Foundation Course. But as one of the Best Classes for CA Foundation, we encounter many students who decide to pursue CA after graduation.

While that’s fine, preparing early, particularly during 11th and 12th, is a smarter move. It provides a crucial head start, reduces pressure, and builds conceptual clarity.

Nevertheless, how do you prepare yourself for the CA Foundation, especially with other academic subjects? Here’s a subject-wise study plan that can help.

The Earlier the Better – Why Begin Early?

CA Foundation, as the name suggests, is the foundation on which you structure your career. Starting as early as class 11 and 12 helps you in various ways, including:

  • Developing strong basics in Accounts and Mathematics
  • Steadily adapt to CA-level questions
  • Avoid last-minute cramming after the 12th standard
  • Develop the right approach, discipline, and consistency
  • Integrating school and CA topics, particularly if you are studying commerce

Understanding the CA Foundation Course Subjects

The CA Foundation Course includes studying the following subjects.

  • Paper 1: Accounting – Focuses on basic accounting principles, journal entries, and financial statements.
  • Paper 2: Business Laws – Covers legal aspects like contracts and business regulations.
  • Paper 3: Quantitative Aptitude – Includes mathematics, statistics, and logical reasoning concepts.
  • Paper 4: Business Economics – Explains economic principles and business environment fundamentals.

Weekly Study Strategy (During Classes 11 and 12)

CA Foundation requires extensive studying to strengthen your basics. However, during classes 11 and 12, you don’t necessarily have to study 6-8 hours. A couple of hours or a little more focused study, based on the subject, can still help you.

Here’s how you can allocate your time throughout the week.

  • Paper 1: Accounting – 3 Hours
  • Paper 2: Business Laws – 3 Hours
  • Paper 3: Quantitative Aptitude – 2 Hours
  • Paper 4: Business Economics – 2 Hours
  • Revision + Tests: 2–3 hours

Subject-Wise Weekly Plan and Schedule

Let us now look at a subject-based weekly plan.

  • Accounting: Accounting is the core subject. Therefore, it demands more attention than any other subject. You can study accounting for three days for a couple of hours each day, during the week. Focus on a single concept at a time. Avoid rushing. Furthermore, emphasize concept application in varied formats, detect errors, rectify them, and maintain speed with accuracy.
  • Business Laws: Law is yet another crucial subject. Dedicate two days, 90 minutes of study on each day, during the week. Understand provisions instead of memorizing them. Emphasize case-based learning. Practice writing structured answers. Furthermore, allocate around 30 minutes to BCR.
  • Quantitative Aptitude : You can study this for 2-3 days (1.5 hours each) during the week. Focus on ratios, indices, equations, and logical reasoning patterns. Practice a minimum of 20-30 questions per session.
  • Business Economics: Maintain a 2-day weekly study plan with 60 minutes on each day. Focus on Microeconomics Fundamentals. Develop conceptual clarity over just memorizing definitions. Stay updated with weekly news and comprehend real-world conceptual applications.

A weekly schedule can look as follows.

Day Subjects
Monday Accounting and Mathematics
Tuesday Law
Wednesday Accounting and Mathematics
Thursday Economics and Revision
Friday Accounting and Logical Reasoning
Saturday Revision and Mock Examinations
Sunday Light Study

Monthly Study Strategy

While studying weekly, set a monthly goal and work toward completing it. For example, target completing 1-2 chapters per subject per month. Take up comprehensive mock tests every month. Track your performance and analyze it.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Here are some common mistakes to avoid.

  • Overloading and rushing to learn everything at once
  • Delaying revision until the last minute
  • Skipping mock tests
  • Focusing only on challenging subjects or papers

Can we start CA Foundation studies after 10th?

Yes. If you are clear about choosing CA as your career, you can begin preparing from Class 10 as well. Again, beginning earlier helps strengthen your base. It also gives you more time to learn and softens the learning curve. You can begin with basic accounting principles, strengthen core mathematics, develop business awareness, read about economics, and focus on understanding concepts, rather than hurrying up.

 Final Words

The CA Foundation Course is your gateway to the next levels, such as CA Intermediate and CA Final, followed by a 2-year compulsory internship. Therefore, the earlier you prepare, the better. The better you prepare, the easier the journey. We hope the above plan helps you. However, if you are serious about a career in CA, personalized CA Foundation Coaching and a specific study plan can help you prepare more effectively. Want to embark on your CA journey with experts?
